The Port of Algeciras Bay Authority (APBA) is set to invest €2 million in acquiring a new container scanner within the framework of the CSI Initiative, following an agreement reached in 2005 between the EU and the US Customs Department and operational in the Port of Algeciras since 2005.

Our new scanner is fitted out with all the latest technology, greater resolution and speed, allowing us to make ten times more inspections than the IRS and Civil Guard currently make each day to try and stop contraband from entering the EU.

This is why our port authority is to invest €2 million on the purchase of a so-called Fast Scanner, which will replace our current one.  The APBA has already begun the purchase process with the relative technical assistance required, to be followed by the subsequent approval of a tender and award process.  All in all, our fast scanner should be operative at the Port of Algeciras by the turn of 2016.
